Concern about Lake Hopatcong’s low water levels continues: A boat race was postponed over the weekend and yesterday, state officials again reduced the outflow from the lake to try to raise levels. The water level at the Lake Hopatcong dam was about two feet below normal, according to the Star-Ledger.

Housing construction nationwide fell to a record low in April and is on pace to fall to a record low for the year, according to a U.S. Commerce Department report released today.

New Jersey’s “best beach” will be announced today in Sandy Hook. The No. 1 beach, and nine others to round out a top 10, were chosen by votes from the public and scientific factors such as average wave heights. Wildwood won the contest last year.

Over the weekend, more than 100 people attended the kickoff of the Pennsylvania Highlands Trail Project, one piece of a four-state trail system that links Connecticut, New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania through a massive greenway. Pennsylvania’s just-begun project will help protect a valuable watershed.

Tomorrow, nonprofit groups from the environmental, housing, planning and transportation sectors will hold a press conference in Trenton to talk about the way the state is spending economic stimulus money and suggest changes they say would ensure the funds make a more significant positive impact.
