The Star-Ledger and other news sources are reporting a major forest fire in the Pinelands has consumed some 200 acres of the forest and, as of this evening, is now 50 percent contained.
The fire has apparently burned 200 acres of the Pinelands National Reserve in Galloway Township and part of Egg Harbor City. No injuries have been reported, and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
Springtime — until June 1 — is considered fire season in New Jersey.
