Energy debate continues at A.C. hearing
Renewable energy advocates were well represented yesterday at a federal energy hearing in Atlantic City, the first in a series of meetings designed to guide President Obama’s energy policy and gauge public opinion on offshore oil and natural gas production.
At the hearing Interior Secretary Ken Salazar listened to testimony from them and advocatesĀ of oil drilling in the outer continental shelf, which is still on the table because a Congressional moratorium has expired.
Gov. Corzine and other New Jersey politicians who attended strongly opposed offshore drilling and favored wind power, according to Matt Elliott of Environment New Jersey. The anti-drilling, pro-wind message “was a message the secretary heard and was receptive to,” Elliott said.
