EPA hearing on clean cars tomorrow

Remember how California, New Jersey and a group of other states decided to make their own rules regulating vehicles’ emissions, because the federal government wouldn’t?

Remember how the federal government blocked that effort?

The Obama EPA tomorrow will hold a hearing on the stronger vehicle emissions standards.

California’s rules would have cut tailpipe emissions 30 percent by 2016. The new standards would have held automakers to more than 40 miles per gallon for new cars and light trucks, and about 27 miles per gallon for bigger trucks and SUVs, according to published reports.
