Reports of stolen bikes up at Princeton
More bicycles were reported stolen this year than last at Princeton University, according to a report today in the Daily Princetonian.
People like Patrick Jacob (’12) have even locked their bikes up correctly, the story says, only to lose them. (Though we should point out it doesn’t ever seem smart to leave a bike locked to a pole outside for two weeks or more. Especially in winter.)
So far in the academic year, 72 bicycles have been reported stolen, up from only 50 stolen during the 2007-08 academic year.
University Public Safety is urging students to report stolen bikes, and recently launched a program, “Prevent it, Lock it, Register it,” to raise awareness. Students who register their bikes can get a U-shaped lock from the university for $18.
