Another small earthquake shakes Morris County towns

A 2.3-magniture earthquake was reported early this morning in Morris County.

The U.S. Geological Survey said the minor quake happened at 1:42 a.m., according to the Star-Ledger. No damage or injuries were reported.

A coordinator with the county office of emergency management told the Star-Ledger the epicenter was just over a mile outside Dover, and the quake was felt mostly by people in Denville and Randolph.

    good. now i have an excuse for walking around all funny. is there some fault line in NJ?

    The local biggie is the Ramapo Fault, it trends approx north-south and is about 200 million years old. It essentially defines the western edge of the Newark Basin and the border between piedmont and highlands. The Newark Basin formed as a result of rifting when North America seperated from Europe/Africa.
