Dolphins may have made it out

Between three and five dolphins feared dead in the Shrewsbury River may have made it to safety before the river froze, according to news reports.
Witnesses told the Associated Press and two local weeklies that they saw some of the dolphins swim out of the river and into Sandy Hook Bay earlier this month. They hadn’t been spotted in recent days.
Teri Frady, spokeswoman for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, said the agency interviewed one of the witnesses, according to Red Bank Green. But without confirmed re-sightings, it’s not possible to know the location and condition of 13 of an original group of 16 dolphins, she said.
Three of the dolphins died before the recent cold weather.
The NOAA is asking anyone who sees the dolphins (or has seen them since January 13) to contact them at nj.dolphins@noaa.gov.
