Joshua Lutz’s Meadowlands

Photographer Joshua Lutz has a new book out of his interesting and gorgeous images of the Meadowlands: The people, the nature, the trash, the strange contrasts. They’re pictures the Manhattan resident and teacher took over 10 years on a bulky 8-by-10 view camera, at a cost of $13 a shutter click.

“Meadowlands,” his coffee table-size book, lists for $50.

“You mention the Meadowlands to everyone and they immediately go, ‘Yeah, I’ve driven through it. I passed through it. I went through it on a train,’” Lutz told the Herald News. “I started to think, what does it mean to have a place that you drive by? I started to wonder, what does ‘transient’ mean? I started to think about different things, about what’s hidden, about exploring, about loneliness.”
