A former Princeton Environmental Commission member blasted the Princeton Regional Planning Board this weekend for its “lack of interest” in protecting the environment. Grace Sinden wrote of one incident in which she asked a current planning board/township committee member about an ordinance that made developers replace trees they knocked out only to be told, allegedly, “Not everyone cares about trees that much.” “Such tree replacement should be a requirement and not used as a bargaining chip with developers,” Sinden wrote in the Princeton Packet.

Meanwhile, a tree-protecting ordinance is to be read tomorrow at a special 5:30 p.m. meeting of the West Orange township council, according to the blog Overdevelopment in West Orange. Thousands of trees in the township are at risk of being cleared for a housing development.

Good news: Eighteen trees have been planted at Montgomery Township’s five public schools, a recent project by the local Shade Tree Commission.

Finally, the Asbury Park Press had this short ode to the New Jersey State Forest Nursery in Jackson.
