Hydrogen cars, and a fueling station, may soon come to New Jersey. BMW plans to bring some of its liquid hydrogen-powered cars, and a fueling station, to its Woodcliff Lake headquarters, the Bergen Record is reporting.

The company will lend the cars to celebrities and politicians to test how they fare in the region and to promote these alternative fuel vehicles.

The fueling station would include a 4,500-gallon liquid hydrogen tank (which apparently makes some local residents nervous). Woodcliff Lake’s planning board was to meet tomorrow to discuss details of BMW’s plans, but according to the borough website, the meeting has been canceled.

When hydrogen burns, water is a byproduct — not carbon dioxide, a greenhouse gas.
