Cleanup resumes at EnCap site

State workers resumed cleanup of an EnCap landfill Friday to show that the sites will be maintained, deal or no deal.

According to Meadowlands Commission officials (via the Record), about 50,000 gallons of leachate will be removed from the Rutherford West landfill five days a week and treated by the Bergen County Utilities Authority.

Leachate from two other landfills continues to flow into the Hackensack River; said Jeff Tittel of the Sierra Club: “It’s like bailing the ocean with a bucket.”
