Lights will go out around the world tomorrow for Earth Hour, a movement that aims to get people thinking about their energy use. To participate, turn off the lights between 8 and 9 p.m.

More than 300 cities and towns around the world are expected to take part; four major U.S. cities — Chicago, San Francisco, Phoenix and Atlanta — will turn off all nonessential lights. The World Wildlife Fund launched the event last year in Sydney, where about 2 million people participated.

Check Earth Hour’s website for other things you can do tomorrow — unplug appliances, install CFLs, consider other ways to cut back on your energy use. Etc.
