  • Bergen County will cap the old Overpeck Landfill, a garbage dump that spans Ridgefield Park and Teaneck, and lay groundwork for a “world-class park” that was supposed to have been built more than 50 years ago. (The park’s new, court-ordered completion date: Sept. 30, 2009.)
  • Farmers spoke out against Gov. Corzine’s budget, which would shutter the Department of Agriculture; Sen. Leonard Lance told the Star-Ledger “it is unlikely the department will no longer exist.” (At the moment, Alaska and Rhode Island are the only states that don’t have stand-alone agriculture departments.)
  • The editorial board of the Express-Times suggested lowering the levels of the Delaware reservoirs to avert devastating floods this season.
  • Morris Township’s plans to build a new recreation complex were delayed after two local scientists reported seeing wood turtles, a threatened species, at the proposed site.
