Rumson students teach peers to reuse and recycle

A short list of the accomplishments of Rumson-Fair Haven Regional High School’s environmental club:

  • Aiming to have everything in the cafeteria be washable, reusable or made of biodegradable paper by the end of this year.
  • Swapping the Styrofoam plates in the cafeteria for for reusable black plastic ones (and, now, working to convince their peers to stop throwing the reusable plates out.)
  • Sponsoring a flower garden.

An amazing group. However, we can’t resist teasing one member, senior Johnny Lembeck, for this quote in today’s Asbury Park Press:

“It’s our world in 25 years, so anything we can do to help, we have to do,” Lembeck said.

It’s not clear why Lembeck believes the world becomes ours when we reach 42 or 43. Maybe he’s a fan of Douglas Adams.

The club’s annual Enviropalooza, an event attended by environmental groups and the public, is scheduled for March 25.
